Safety and Requirements

Your safety is the top priority on this manta ray night snorkel. This activity takes place in open ocean conditions and involves snorkeling at night, so the tour includes detailed safety procedures, trained crew support, and strict participation requirements to ensure every guest has a safe and enjoyable experience.

This section outlines who can participate, what skills are required, and what to expect in terms of safety practices on board and in the water.

Who Can Participate

✔ Required: Ability to Swim

All snorkelers must have previous swimming and snorkeling experience.
If you cannot confidently swim in open water, you will not be allowed to enter the water for safety reasons.

✔ Required: Comfort in Open Water

Guests must be comfortable:

  • Floating on the surface
  • Using a snorkel
  • Using flotation devices if needed
  • Being in deep water at night

✔ Recommended Fitness Level

Participants should have moderate physical fitness to climb the ladder, stay positioned at the snorkel site, and comfortably navigate open-water conditions.

Option for Non-Swimmers

A Ride-Along (observer) option is available for guests who prefer to stay on the boat and watch the manta rays from above the water.

Safety Briefing & Crew Support

Before entering the water, the crew provides a clear, step-by-step briefing covering:

  • How to safely enter and exit the water
  • How to hold onto the floating light platforms
  • What manta ray behavior to expect
  • How to stay calm and relaxed in the water
  • Emergency signals and procedures

A trained guide remains in the water with guests throughout the session, and additional crew members monitor from the boat.

Equipment & Flotation

To ensure a comfortable and controlled experience, the tour provides:

  • Mask and snorkel
  • Jacket-style wetsuit top for warmth
  • Flotation devices to keep you positioned safely at the surface
  • Light boards that attract plankton and manta rays, helping you stay in one place

Guests must use the provided equipment unless they have approved gear of their own.

In-Water Safety Expectations

To maintain safety and protect the manta rays:

  • Do not dive below the surface — all viewing is done while floating
  • Do not touch or chase manta rays
  • Keep hands on the flotation device or light board
  • Maintain awareness of other snorkelers
  • Listen to crew instructions at all times

Manta rays are gentle and harmless, but staying calm and still helps ensure a positive encounter.

Weather & Ocean Conditions

Tours are dependent on safe weather and water conditions. The crew may adjust timing or cancel a tour if the ocean becomes unsafe. If a trip is canceled by the operator, guests may choose:

  • An alternative date
  • Or a full refund

What to Bring

For comfort and safety, guests should bring:

  • Towel
  • Dry clothes
  • Light jacket or sweatshirt
  • Reef-safe sunscreen (for pre-sunset portion)
  • Motion sickness medication (if prone to seasickness)

Health & Participation Restrictions

For safety reasons, this tour is not recommended for:

  • Non-swimmers (unless booking Ride-Along)
  • Guests with mobility limitations that prevent ladder use
  • Guests with severe heart or respiratory conditions
  • Pregnant travelers (depending on comfort level with open ocean conditions)
  • Individuals under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Children must meet the swimming requirement and follow all crew instructions.

Manta Ray Guarantee

In the rare event manta rays are not seen, guests are offered a free return trip on another night, depending on availability.
